Ward Forums replace Area Committees
Earlier this year the council voted to abolish the old area committees in favour of 23 ward forums, with the aim of getting more people involved. The first of the new ward forums began in September 2008.
Led by ward councillors, the forums feature joint problem solving on local concerns, including round table discussions on issues such as community safety, traffic and transport schemes, parks and street improvements. Plus each ward has the chance to influence an annual budget of £40,000 for local improvements.
The Draytons Community Association will seek to represent strongly the views of DCA members as well as everyone else in our community by participation in our Ward's Cleveland Forum. We anticipate that the first meeting for Cleveland will take place this year and will do our best to let you know more.
Do please let us know if you have suggestions for how our ward could best benefit from this new scheme.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a story of irreconcilable love and infidelities in which Milan Kundera addresses himself to the nature of twentieth-century 'Being', offering a wide range of brilliant and amusing philosophical speculations. First published in 1984, Kundera's masterly novel encompasses the extremes of comedy and tragedy and was at once hailed by critics as a contemporary classic. |

Safer Neighbourhoods meeting
Took place on Tuesday 22 July at St Stephens Church & Centre
Sgt. Stephen Driscoll & PC Steve Robinson spoke.
We intend posting a brief report detailing content as soon as we can, together with the very latest crime statistics
From the Safer Neighbourhoods Team, 5th May 2008:
Now that the crime reporting year has come to an end we are pleased to say that once again crime has fallen across the ward. Although the figures are awaiting ratification, early signs are that they will show a fall, taking the Ward’s total to around a 1000 reported crimes for the whole Ward. This represents a fall of over 200 per year since the team started in April 2006. We are now moving into establishing closer ties with our residents associations and will be in the next year looking to provide regular bulletins highlighting emerging crimes and asking for help with regards to intelligence.
The DCA plays an important part in establishing our link with your area. One of our citizen ward panel members is a DCA member and is there to make sure that the Ward’s citizens have a say in how we police your area and the ward in general. We are always interested in your views and comments which can be e-mailed to us at cleveland.snt@met.police.uk or on 0208 246 9406.

Our membership secretary, Sheila Horncastle, has been looking into problems with TV reception in our area. It now looks very much as if Dominion, developers of the new Dominion Plaza next to the Drayton Court, are being sympathetic to her case and may be prepared to help affected residents. If you think that your TV reception has deteriorated significantly recently, please let us know so that we can pass you name and address to Sheila, who may be able to help you. |

SECURITY IN OUR COMMUNITY
27/11/07
Please be aware that a group of bogus roofers have been operating in the area in the last week and have attempted to con one of our members into paying for un-needed repairs.
The group consists of three men using a white van, they may know you name or a neighbours name and attempt to convince you they spotted damage while working on another property.
On no account allow these men to 'inspect' your roof or indeed go near your property as their 'inspection' could cause a fair bit of damage itself and let your neighbours know.
The Police have been informed, if you do get approached call the police safer neighbourhoods team on 0208 721 2920.

POLICE are warning residents to keep their keys away from their front doors, following a high number of letterbox burglaries in the borough.
In each case it is believed a long item has been used to hook keys that have been left in the hallway, or to pull the door handle down and get in without forcing entry.
Chris Mullally, spokesman for the force said: "This type of crime can be avoided simply by keeping your keys away from the front door- I found this in the Ealing Times. I was going to send it round anyway but when I see it in the next door street , I wonder what if anything is happening to Neighbourhood Watch in this area. From Ealing Police "We are appealing to all homeowners to consider tighter security measures for your keys and to make sure they have properly locked their front doors, especially at night or when homes are unoccupied."
The warning comes after two men were disturbed as they attempted to break into a house by putting a piece of vine through a letterbox.A man in his 30s, was in the house in Mayfield Avenue, Ealing, on Sunday, November 25, with his child when he heard noises at the front door at 3am.
When he went to see what the noise was, he saw a long piece of vine had been pushed through his letterbox. Two black men, aged around 18 to 20, both with dark hair, who were wearing baseball caps and dark jackets, were seen running away from the house.
